      Parker the Tibetan Terrier

      March 6th, 2009

Recently, I had the privilege of dog sitting a beautiful Tibetan Terrier which I’ve been told is often the reincarnation of a Tibetan Monk! We already have two dogs already in our home, so adding Parker, if only for a few days required some stretching and accommodating by all. It was like creating a blended family. One of the amazing things I noticed about this dog was his wonderful ability to lighten things up and make us laugh. When I dropped my wet towel on the floor, he rolled around on it! When the mood got somber, he jumped up on the bed, ran around in circles, and happily barked for joy.

So, when it was time for me to do an animal communication session with a cat in New Zealand, I invited him to sit with me in my meditation chair. Without a moment’s hesitation, he leaped into my lap. During my conversation with the lovely sweet New Zealand cat, Parker sat perfectly still, patiently waiting for us to complete our talk. When we finished and I closed the conversation, I turned my attention to Parker.
In a delightful conversation, we chatted amicably for a while. His last words to me were, “But why do you call it your ‘mediation chair’? You should really call it your ‘journey chair’.” I thought, ‘Oh, he most mean because I’m a Soul Coach and I take people on Soul Journeys.’

He heard that thought and said, “Oh no! It’s because you can sit in this chair and journey to New Zealand for a talk with a cat!”

And of course, he was right. We can travel anywhere, anytime. Our loving intentions take us on many journeys near and far. Today before sitting down to write this little story about Parker. I found myself longing to return to that very chair for an afternoon meditation. I thought to myself, “I’m going to go meditate myself.” But then I laughed as I heard Parker say, “No, you should say you this: I’m going to go journey myself!”

      Animals as Mirrors

      March 4th, 2009

      Animals as Mirrors

My two sweet dogs, Buddy and Casey have very different attitudes toward food. Casey loves to eat as fast and as much as she can. Buddy on the other hand, likes to approach more cautiously. He walks slowly around his food bowl, sniffing and waits to be gently invited to dine. Finally, when he actually takes his first bite, Casey has usually finished by gulping all of her food down. Then she begins to circle Buddy like a vulture waiting for any kibbles to slip out of his dish. Often, I ask her to sit quietly beside me while we wait for Buddy to slowly pick through his food. This is the ritual in our home morning and night.

Of course, I know my dogs are perfect mirrors for me and my attitudes toward food. In the morning I’m like Buddy and not very interested in food. However, often at night, I can feel Casey’s passion for munching possess me! Not to worry, I’m aware and working to bring this food issue into balance.

Recently my dear friend Janet gave me the book, “Money and the Law of Attraction” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. It’s a great book and I highly recommend it. Because of the important messages in this book, I decided to enjoy it as one might enjoy a fine wine. Instead of rushing through it quickly, I chose it to read it slowly section by section, morning and night.

So it’s morning, and as many of us do, I decide to multi-task. That is, read the book while Buddy is eating. Soon I discovered every time I would turn away from Buddy to read, he would stop eating. Then, when I would give him attention and encourage him, he would begin to eat his food again. Well, I know I’m not always ‘the sharpest knife in the drawer’, but after a few times of these stops and starts, I begin to laugh out loud. Leave it to my good friend Buddy to demonstrate to me exactly how the Law of Attraction works! He was showing me whatever I give my attention to, I will attract into my life! Thank you Buddy!

So, how does your animal companion mirror for you? If you’re able, come join our lively discussion on Wednesday evening:
