Each month, we would like to explain in a little more detail what the CLARAC Approach is and how to use it when communicating with animals. In each newsletter, I’ll be expanding a little more on each letter in the word CLARAC.
CENTER
The C in the CLARAC Approach stands for Center. Most people have their own way of centering during and after any situation. Her are a few suggestions to help you get centered for your AC session. Get in a comfortable position, and allow your body to relax. If it’s safe to do so, close your eyes. If you are at home, play soft meditation music in the background. This will be an additional signal for your body to relax. I have a meditation studio in my home where I light candles before my animal communication calls. Amazingly, I’ve discovered lighting a candle is a very centering exercise. (Of course, if you are away from home, you don’t need music or candles.) Take in a few deep cleansing breaths in which you breathe in for the count of three, hold and release your breath for the count of three. I like to do this breathing exercise at least three times. If you like, you can invite whoever is with present with you or on the phone to do this breathe exercise, also.
GROUND
There are many ways to ground your energy before a session. One way is to imagine tree roots growing out of your feet and down into Mother Earth. Animal Communicator, Marta Williams suggests you imagine a huge long animal tail growing from you tail bone, down into the ground and into Mother Earth.
Often, I imagine a beautiful white light above my head which is filled with rainbow colors. The colors travel down through the energy centers of my body, wrapping around the heart of Mother Earth, coming back up through my body, shooting up through the top of my head. Then, the colors dance all around me, forming a beautiful coat of many colors.
ASK FOR ASSISTANCE
Would you like to know a secret? There are times before I began talking with an animal that a part of me panics. My ego says to me, “But, what if you can’t hear the animal this time?” The truth is the ego is 100% NOT intuitive. No wonder it panics so often! This is why I always ask for help. Here are some of the Light Beings I call in to assist my client, the animal and myself: The Archangels-Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael. All of our Guardian Angels, Guides, Master Teachers, our Eternal Souls, and all of our Ancestors who would come to help for the ‘Highest and Best Good’.
GIVING THANKS FOR A POSITIVE OUTCOME
Giving thanks for a positive outcome for your animal communication session is very important. You might say something like this, “I give thanks and appreciation for a clear session in which positive and useful information will be given and received by all parties involved.” This is a way of setting a positive intention for the session.
In next month’s newsletter, we will discuss the letter ‘L’ which stands for Love.

I asked Barb to share her some advice about how she worked through the grief of losing her beloved dog Bear and this is what she wanted to share with those of you who may be going through this difficult process:
My experience with Bear taught me that there is a continuation of Life. Death seems to be but one side of a polarity, the integration of which is pure Spirit, which always Is and will always Be, in spite of appearances. After we have moved through our grieving process, we begin to see new realities – new doorways are open to us – if we can allow ourselves to see. Meditation & prayer, along with writing about my experiences, as you suggested, as been invaluable and has offered great comfort to me. Also, (as you told me) I would tell her to be very aware of symbols and messages that will appear at this time. (My symbol with Bear has become a beautiful white butterfly, appearing in my yard over the past several weeks)
You have a very special gift. Your words to those of us going through this period of bereavement are not only comforting and uplifting, but truly inspiring. I often recall these words when I may be feeling down, or sad. Then I am once again reminded to shift my thinking and feeling into a new and empowering perspective.
Love,
Barb
One thing I forgot to mention…You and I talked about a celebration of the animal’s life. Along with the writings and remembrances, it has also been helpful to me to put together a sort of collage featuring all the pictures of our life together. Every time I look at it I am again reminded of the blessings we shared every day.
First, let me say what an honor it is to be blessed with your knowledge and light. After our conversation yesterday, I went straight to your website to learn more about your gift of animal communication. As we discussed, I have always felt so very drawn to the light around all animals and I have always wondered why our pets did not seem to have the gift of speech, but yet they all seemed to be able to communicate their intent of pure love, and affection to US in human form so well. So many times, I have wished that I could say to them THANK YOU for loving me so unconditionally! I listened to one of your radio Web Cast and I heard you speaking about communicating with our beloved pets that have already made their transition to spirit form. You mentioned that really, all we had to do was ask them to let us know that there are still around (give us a sign), so to speak. This insight, really made me think about my sweet little Romeo.
I adopted Romeo, a 25 year old African Gray Parrot in 2003. Romeo had been surrendered to a breeder after the elderly couple that owned him had both crossed over. The breeder was very happy to “unload” Romeo so to speak, as Romeo did not seem to like anybody and he tried to bite anyone who got to near his space. As it turned out, Romeo and I really seemed to hit it off, and soon we were best of friends. I would walk around with Romeo on my shoulder and he would lick my ear with his brushy feeling tongue and he would even try to stick his whole beak into my mouth to kiss me. WOW! Is that love or what?
Anyway, one day while Romeo was walking around on his cage the doorbell rang and I went to answer and got trapped into a long conversation with the yard man. After about ten minutes, I returned to find my beloved Romeo lifeless on the floor. I just remember seeing feathers everywhere and knew instantly that Pee-Wee my old dachshund had gotten the best of him. Pee-Wee had never seemed to care about Romeo; mostly she just laid around, ate and slept. I immediately fell down on the floor and just wept and wept. I called a friend, and although she could hardly understand my panicked and tearful screams, she came immediately and buried poor Romeo in the back yard for me.
Many times over, I have been overcome with sadness and guilt and asked Romeo to forgive my negligence. I always hoped he had heard my plea’s and somehow, hoped that he could forgive me.
Remembering what you said, I asked that Romeo just give me a sign that he was okay, and that he was still around me. I asked him to send me a feather. The very next morning while at work, a gentleman came to do some construction on the front of our building. I manage a busy doggie daycare, and I went out front several times to look at work the contractor had done. About 20 minutes after the worker left; I was standing at the front desk and decided I needed to get something out of my car. As I opened the front door, right there in front of me on the concrete was a LARGE bird feather. It was not some tiny little sparrow feather either; it was more like a quill! I knew instantly it was Romeo, and he was saying YES I AM HERE AND IN A BIG WAY! Thank you so very much for giving me this feeling of relief and blessing of peace!
I feel so very blessed to be able to live my dream and work everyday with these beautiful, loving beings and now I feel so much better equipped to understand them. Now when I say “Romeo, Romeo where for art though Romeo”? I hear, “Right here Mom, Right HERE”!

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They do not know evil or jealousy or discontent.
To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden,
where doing nothing was not boring ~ it was peace.” ~Milan Kudera
Everyone in the family wants to feel like they contribute to the family unit. This is also true for our animal companions. They like to please and feel useful. For their well being, it’s important to recognize, assign and appreciate the jobs they do. Sometimes, they do it so naturally that you really have to take the time to carefully observe the work behaviors. Animals often assign themselves a job in the home or they can purposely be given their work assignment by members of the family. There are a wide variety of jobs they do or can be asked to do. The task may simply be to cheer in the morning or to be a service worker. Other animal jobs are People-Greeters, Protectors or Spiritual Energy Workers. Often when communicating with animals, their human companions want to assign them a job. The work gives them a sense of purposeful belonging to the pack, pride or herd.
Recently on a home visit, I had a wonderful conversation with an eleven year old dog who actually acted more like a puppy. She had a passion for life and really enjoyed human attention! Her human mom told me she often barked when company came to the house, which this time with me present she did not do. She wanted her to stop barking when company came over. As I was sitting on the floor with this sweet little dog, I asked her if she would like the job of being Miss Manners? Immediately, as I formed the question in my head, she let out two loud barks. Quite surprised by this physical response, I asked her the question again. And again she replied with two clear barks! I asked her if the barking was a ‘yes’. She excitedly told me, “Of course, it’s a yes! I want to be Miss Manners. But …, what does that mean?” I explained the job to her knowing that her human mom would have to do more follow-up and reinforcement on this one. But I had to laugh out loud as I explained to her human, this dog’s willingness to accept a job before she even knew what the work entailed!
Not all of the jobs our animals do are as light-hearted as the one asked of Miss Manners. Once I went to visit a most ordinary-looking Cockatiel. The little bird told me it was his job to shine a ‘point of light’ down on each of the children who came for violin lessons. Most everyone who visited reported how wonderful they felt receiving the great love from this little bird.
Cats have often told me about how they work to clear the energy in a home. I visited a multi-cat family where one of the cats told me her job was to clear the energy in a household. She also said she had to clean my energy too, just in case I felt like I was an exception! Our animal friends love to be needed! Pay attention to the jobs they’re doing in your household. Catch them in the act and praise them. Let them know how much you appreciate their contributions.
You can even find new jobs for them to do! First, send a picture of them doing the work. Repeat and then watch for evidence that they are taking the actions you requested. Whatever the task, be sure to send them love and appreciation for a job well done. You’ll be surprised to discover just how much your animal companion really does care about assisting you in your everyday life! Please write in and reveal your discoveries with us. We will share it in our next newsletter. Maybe your animals’ behaviors will inspire others to do great and wonderful work!
