Getting Lucky, Lucy, Ethel and Bruno too!
March 17th, 2010Recently, I did a home visit with a lovely lady who had two dogs named Lucy and Ethel. (It made me think of Lucille Ball.) They were so cute! I just wanted to snuggle with both of them. So, that’s how I had the idea in this month of the Irish Luck to write about how we got lucky: Lucky, Lucy, Ethel, Bruno and all of the other animals that have blessed our lives. These are the stories of new beginnings.
Casey
I remember when my husband and I first brought home Casey, our Brittany spaniel for the first time. On our way home I held her in my lap, but she seemed sad missing her mom and siblings. The next morning, she and I were alone in the house. She was only about 10 weeks old. I laid down on the floor beside her and said, “So, now what?” I wondered how long I would have her in my life and how my life would be having her in it every single day. This was my first dog since living away from my family and I wanted to make sure I did everything right. In those moments there together on the floor, we seemed to make a bond and plan to be there for each other. When my husband and I divorced, she came with me because she was the only thing/being I would have really truly fought to keep in my life. Fortunately, he was willing to let her go.
It’s eleven years later now and she’s still my best friend along with Buddy, of course. She’s watching me write this note. We’ve been through a lot together: puppies, the divorce, selling our Wisconsin home and our move to Texas. She loves to snuggle and is still a happy puppy in the morning! Now I have the answer to that question I asked so long ago: ‘So, now what?’ The answer is now we have a life together, filled with unconditional love, happiness and devotion. And, I am blessed every single day that she is still in my life.
I love you Casey Girl,
Sandra
